Director's Statement: "“You And Me in a City”
A “could`ve been a love story” short film by Eric Plamondon

A project of the heart and the mind, “You And Me in a City” (YAMIAC) is a film that inserts itself well in the strong culture of Canadian indie-shorts. Shot and produced without a budget, it is the result of a group of active interdisciplinary artists coming together to tell a story. The story centres on a quasi universal sentiments that unfold in a non-narrated style that allow the audience to connect to the characters fluidly all the while discovering elements to the characters that add complexity that highlights these feelings. The technical team consisting of the director, the cinematographer, the editor, the art director, and many others came as needed to support the vision centered on Plamondon’s writing. Furthermore, they were crucial in giving a professional elevation to a cast of full first time actors. The result is a sincere, genuine and authentic film from beginning to end. The indie-canadian soundtrack provides a score that sets the needed mood and reminds the audience that cross collaborations in the Canadian artistic scene often yield inspired results. If the main characters, Riley (played by newcomer Justin Mourant) and Adam (also newcomer, Pascal Toupin-Selinger), seek new territory to fulfill surfacing hopes and desires. YAMIAC too venture in new territory to fulfill surfacing hopes and desires that are more exposed in our society.

Where there are no set conclusions to complex emotions, a short film can not pretend to attempt to offer any conclusions due to limits of time, and thus this film is simply part of a larger narrative that needs to be created. Queer cinema is leaving the confines of niche cinema and finding its place in a larger context. “Queer stories” are everyone’s story, but gay characters have a narrative filter that allows us to be exploiting the feeling that we all share, and thus prove why these stories are important to see. This film emanates from a queer artist, Eric Plamondon, who comfortably utilizes queerness to tell universal stories. "
