The Montefiore Club

Directed by Saul Henteleff

Synopsis: In 1949 a group of men from Winnipeg's Jewish community got together to start a club - The Montefiore Club - a place of their own to play high stakes poker, eat salami and eggs and party till dawn. It was a fast joint! But that was the public image. What few people know is that the club also served a vital community function - in its 50 years of existence it became a centre of deep friendship and a source of huge philanthropic generosity. In this half hour documentary film the filmmaker looks at the long and colorful life of the Montefiore Club.
