Director's Statement: As a director, I rely on my lived experience to form positionality and perspective. I hope to unlearn the inhibiting Instagramming, to reorient to the oblivion of auto-tuned, filtered falsetto. I want to exist on a stage of support wherein I can hurt heinously, and grieve without grace or glee. This film is my personal exploration of memory, legacy, and identity, framed through the lens of blurred memory, story and the history of my own family. My grandparents are Holocaust survivors, and their experiences, while often unspoken, have shaped the contours of my life in ways both subtle and profound. This script highlights voice, hopes, fears. The character's words and wardrobe continue to resonate, echoing across generations, reminding me that history is never truly distant. Within the intercutting and the whimsy, there is queerness, searching and pain.
This is based on my original stage play, and my Masters Thesis where I studied the intersection of psychology and filmmaking. I focus on performativity as a coping mechanism, and a rely on my heritage to form questions.
