Director's Statement: "Nadia's Songs" is a very personal film for me, being based upon events that occurred in what was a very formative time in my life. As such, I was extra sensitive to the subject matter and wanted to try and tell the story in as accurate a way as possible, and try and share it with the audience in the same way that I experienced it. For me, all I had to go by to try and piece together Nadia's story were her CDs; inanimate objects. They were always still and lifeless, but the more time I spend in my younger days pondering them, the more life they started to have, and I feel like I was able to put a lot of my heart and soul into them. With the film, I wanted to try and capture that same feeling, using only the objects to tell the story, with no life or movement to be found (save for the ending). My hope is that by holding the camera on these objects for as long as I do and searching for the meaning within them, hopefully the audience will start to see the story come alive as well and will connect with the kinds of feelings I am exploring.
