Grand Mother Tongue
Directed by Chanelle Lajoie
Logline: Following the tongue through language and lust.
Synopsis: Grand Mother Tongue pairs poetry, spoken in Plains Cree, and breath with the intimate imagery of strawberries being consumed bite-by-bite, and finger lick for finger lick. Together, these stories work to build a foundation of queer desire, heart medicine, and language revitalization for those who are also seeking to connect with these intersections of self and community.

Director's Statement: Grand Mother Tongue is, for me, the story sharing queer love, letting love into our bodies, and becoming that very love gifted to us by our ancestors. I had found there to be layers existing within strawberries as the heart medicine and a fruit carrying its own air of sensuality. When merging the two, I had found that there was a co-existence of queer desire and Indigeneity. This is a space I look to exist in, invite others into, and celebrate. I hope this work provides such a space for others as it has for me.
